The World just got introduced to the “New” Rishabh Pant and he’s scary
There was something different about Rishabh Pant that walked out to bat against Rajasthan. While he was batting you saw something that you usually don't really associate with him and if this is not a fluke and he's able to do this regularly then there couldn't be a bigger warning that Pant could have sent out with his innings. The bowlers all across the world should be worried and they should be scared because Rishabh Pant just became mature.
At a ripe age of 21, it seems that he has figured out what batting is all about. During the run chase, there was the same impetuosity that we have all grown accustomed to and like about Rishabh but at the same time, there was so much more on display. This was an innings of a player who knew where the fielders were and most of the time focused on manipulating the field and picking up doubles.
What Pant has been dinged about in the past(and rightly so) has been the fact that he gets carried away a bit too many times while batting and this comes back to bite him as he loses his wicket a bit too many times in crucial situations. In this match, Pant would go for the big shot once in the over and after that use his talent to maneuver the ball through the field and run singles and doubles and most importantly still keep his wicket intact.
This was one of the innings where Pant has actually shown how steep his learning graph is and at 21 if he's able to be this good then the sky is the limit for him. The interesting question though that needs to be answered is if Pant is able to continue this form and produce similar innings in the coming matches then does that give him an outside chance to replace Dinesh Karthik? If it does, it would mean India going into the tournament with potential dynamite of a player in the team who is starting to learn the craft as well. For Indian fans, it's great news because although he might not be the new Dhoni he can surely be the new Pant and even that is a great asset for any team.
